The house, a Victorian Villa, known originally as Monzie Cottage was part of the Dunstaffnage Estates, and bought by Lady Stewart Bam in the 1930's. Ards Cottage, next door but one, was where the chauffeur lived. One of his duties was to look after the generator, housed at the rear of the cottage - Ards was the first house in Connel to have Electricity! The drawing room, added by Lady Stewart Bam is reported to be a scaled down version of the drawing room in the original Ards House, a grand mansion on a two thousand acre estate in Donegal on the Northwest Coast of Ireland, now a Capuchin Franciscan Friary. The premises have been newly refurbished throughout, yet maintain their traditional ambience. We have recently refurbished the spacious drawing room to reflect its comfortable elegance. There is a cosy fire to welcome you and help you relax, original works of art and collectables to peruse and even a grand piano for those gifted with the talent! |
